How to Ensure Dog Bladder Health With a Smart Prevention Plan

Dog Obedience No Comments »

Dog bladder health is critical to vitality and longevity. Since proper urine flow eliminates toxins from the body, it is integral to your pet’s well-being. If your dog is suffering with a urinary tract infection or bladder stones, then you need to know about treatment options, but also about prevention. In this article, you’ll learn about this and more.

Although dog bladder health concerns are more common in certain breeds and can be an issue for aging dogs, there are some simple steps prevention steps that can make a big difference in your dog’s life. First, make sure that your dog is fed healthy, unprocessed food. Many commercial brands are full of chemicals, pesticides, meat byproducts, dyes and cheap grains which can adversely affect the pH of the bladder. When the pH is out of the normal range, bacteria can grow and bladder stones can form leading to a host of problems.

It is better to feed your dog wet food than dry food because the moisture content makes the food easier to digest which means your dog gets more of the nutrients. If you want, you can mix kibble with canned food.

Another simple prevention method that promotes dog bladder health is fresh water. Give your dog a big, fresh bowl several times per day. Make sure to sanitize the bowl by washing it regularly in the dishwasher. Buy an inexpensive tap filter that will ensure that the water is not full of chemicals that can also alter the pH in the bladder.

For dogs that are currently suffering with urinary tract infections or bladder stones or dogs that are prone to these problems, good food and clean water are not enough. If you object to giving your dog antibiotics prescribed by your vet because you don’t want your dog to suffer the side effects, then natural remedies are a smart and effective alternative.

Actually, natural remedies have some clear advantages over prescription drugs. First, instead of suppressing symptoms with the hope that the body will heal itself, herbal remedies actually treat the cause and restore the pH of the bladder, so it can kill bacteria and dissolve bladder stones. Second, natural remedies have no side effects and will not interact with other medications. Third, natural remedies can be used both for treatment and prevention. This is particularly important for dogs that are prone to urinary issues.

Of course, any time you give your dog a supplement, it pays to do your research because not all remedies are formulated to the same exacting standards. Look for a supplement that contains quality ingredients that are known to be effective in creating dog bladder health. These ingredients include important herbs like Uva Ursi, Staphysagris and Cantharis. These herbs work synergistically to soothe inflamed tissues, eliminate pain, infection and bladder stones and restore the pH level that makes for a healthy bladder.

In conclusion, feeding your pet healthy, organic food, fresh clean water and giving your pet a natural remedy designed specifically to address dog bladder health concerns is a simple plan that is effective for both treatment and prevention.

Free Grooming Tips For Long Haired Dogs

Dog Obedience No Comments »

Belgian Sheepdog

For most dogs with long hair fall brings the second heavy shed of the year. Dogs such as the Belgian Sheepdog with it’s jet black coat can be strikingly beautiful if maintained with the appropriate dog grooming supplies.

You will notice during dog grooming that the coat of longhaired dogs is double, with a soft, dense inner coat and a longer, slightly coarser outer coat. The coat on the Belgian for example, is medium long with noticeable fringes on the legs and tail as well as longer and thicker hair around the neck in the ruff and chest area.

While dog grooming a Belgian take note of any white on the toes of the back feet, which can extend between the pads, any white on the front feet is a serious fault in the show ring. The muzzle can have a slight amount of white or gray coloration. In some areas, the coat may fade to a slightly reddish tinge and this is not a fault if it is due to the environment and not to the actual coloration of the dog.

The Belgian Sheepdog as well as all longhaired breeds of dogs “blows” their coat in the spring and fall. This means that the winter and summer coat is lost in a very heavy shed twice a year. Longhaired dogs actually have two coats; the outer coat is thicker, coarser and designed to provide protection and waterproofing. The inner coat is softer, shorter and denser, adding insulation for the dog.

When shedding the inner, softer coat often becomes matted or tangled with the longer, outer coat resulting in thick, knots of hair that may need clipping to be removed. Daily dog grooming with a quality dematting tool will prevent matts and tangles. Also during the shedding season, a bath with FURminator dog shampoo will loosen the hair and make dog grooming much easier. Remember to use only dog specific dog grooming supplies, as human products will cause skin irritations and other issues.

Bathing your longhaired dog in the heavy shed times of the year in your own bathtub will leave a mess. If you choose to do the bathing yourself, it is best done outside in a dog bath tub. This way all of the hair can be collected and discarded without clogging your drains. Using FURminator dog grooming supplies will keep your house hair free for about four to six weeks. To accomplish this goal you will need to really work up a lather when bathing and then immediately brush your dog when the bath is over.

Always groom the outer coat first using a stiff bristle dog brush or dog combs. After the outer areas, including the fringe on the legs and the longer hair on the ruff is completely knot free, use a dog-grooming rake or pin brush to brush the inner coat. Simply and gently, push the longer outer coat up and groom the inner coat downwards in the direction of hair growth. Using these dog grooming supplies daily, especially during the shedding season will prevent most knots and mats from forming.

Using dog grooming scissors, clip the hair around the feet and between the pads to prevent balls from forming between the toes. These balls of hair and debris can cause severe lameness and infections between the toes. Clipping the long hairs on the ears and plucking or pulling any long hairs, in the outer ear area will help prevent infections in the ear itself.

Lastly, your dog grooming sessions should include a brushing their teeth. This component is something some dog owners forget. Dog are just as susceptible to the same tooth and gum diseases as us humans. Grooming your dog should be fun for all. By using the appropriate dog grooming supplies, you will enjoy a cleaner house and beautiful looking dog with fresh breath ready for those sloppy kisses.

Signs Of Bone Cancer In Dogs

Dog Obedience No Comments »

Many men, especially those later in life have made the decision with their doctors to simply watch and wait.Signs Of Bone Cancer In Dogs Men at higher risk for prostate cancer include African-American men older than 60, farmers, tire plant workers, painters, and men exposed to cadmium; the lowest number of cases occurs in Japanese men and those who do not eat meat who reach the age of 80.

The main job of the prostate gland is to make seminal fluid, the milky substance that transports sperm. In most men, prostate cancer grows very slowly; most men will never even know they have the condition. Prostate cancer is the third most common cause of death from cancer in men of all ages and is the most common cause of death from cancer in men over 75 years old.

Most prostate cancer symptoms, although usually associated with prostate cancer, are more likely to be connected to non-cancerous conditions. Additional symptoms that may be associated are bone pain or tenderness, and abdominal pain. If you have one or more prostate cancer symptoms, you should see your doctor as soon as possible.

Some men may experience symptoms that might indicate the presence of prostate cancer. There are various other symptoms that may not be mentioned here. The need to urinate frequently, especially at night is another common symptom but can mimic other health issues.

There are several potential downsides to PSA testing; for example a high PSA does not mean a patient has prostate cancer. One downside to PSA testing is that health care providers are detecting and treating some very early-stage prostate cancers that may never have developed into anything. There is a newer test called an AMACR that is more sensitive than the PSA test for determining the presence of prostate cancer.

The decision about whether or not to pursue a PSA test should be based on a discussion between you and your doctor. A bone scan can indicate whether the cancer has spread. A chest x-ray may be done also to see if there’s a spread of cancer or metastasis.

What you can do right now is begin to understand what exactly your treatment options are and where you’re going to start. Surgery, radiation therapy, and hormonal therapy can all interfere with libido on a temporary or permanent basis. Most men simply want the best treatment they can get but what is important is choosing the best treatment for you.

Urinary incontinence can be one of the complications of surgery. Medicines can be used to adjust the levels of testosterone; this is called hormonal manipulation. Hormone manipulation is mainly used as a treatment to relieve symptoms in men whose cancer has metastasized.

Side effects of the chemotherapy drugs depend on which ones you’re taking and how often and how long they’re taken. The invasive conventional treatment of prostate cancer is often controversial. If continued chemotherapy is decided upon after the first round of chemotherapy, most men receive further doses on an outpatient basis at a clinic or physician’s office. Think hard and long before committing to any chemotherapy.

Whether radiation is as good as removing the prostate gland is debatable and the decision about which to choose, if any, can be difficult for anyone. Prostate cancer that has spread may be treated conventionally with drugs to reduce testosterone levels, surgery to remove the testes, chemotherapy or even nothing at all. A new therapy is on the forefront that recruits the body’s own immune system cells to destroy any tumors that could become a new way to treat men with advanced prostate cancer - if the FDA approves the highly individualized treatment.

For a more natural approach making a ginger tea, by adding a thin slice or two of fresh gingerroot to hot water, is helpful to many people I know. Concentrating on a diet of predominately fruits and vegetables (preferably raw- uncooked) and no junk food, should give you an observable improvement in your overall health within 30 days. Eat foods that contain the essential fatty acids.

A good dietary, natural treatment approach is to avoid all acidic inflammatory foods; those are foods that are not alive, not dead, non-nutrient food. Studies done on antioxidant vitamins question their value when not actually contained in food; it’s clearly better to consume these antioxidants in living foods because they may also need to work with other nutrients present in the foods to work properly. Some foods and beverages to avoid that are inflammatory are: caffeine, salt, sugar, meat, dairy products, additives, soft drinks, white flour, white rice, alcoholic beverages, fast food, processed vegetable oils, and canned, refined, packaged and processed food.

Eat high-fiber snacks like raw nuts (soak them overnight first to release the enzyme inhibitors that make them difficult to digest), raw seeds, and dried fruit, such as dates, and figs. Drink plenty of pure, unchlorinated, filtered water, a minimum of a quart each day. For an easy fiber boost, mix in two tablespoons of ground-up flaxseeds in raw applesauce made from two-three apples in your food processor.

Evidence indicates that many patients detect cancer at an earlier stage because of annual screening, so make sure to get a good, thorough exam. As new research comes out adjust your treatment options accordingly but a good diet will be your best initial defense. In the end, only you with the help of your doctors, knowing your individual situation, can determine the best treatment plan for you.

Why Should You Choose an Igloo Dog House

Dog Obedience No Comments »

Everyone knows that when it comes to dog houses there are many to choose from. So, why would you choose to purchase an igloo dog house for your pet?

I like to think of it from my own dogs perspective. What kind of house would I want for my dog? What would I look for in a house if I was a dog?

I want my pet to feel as loved as someone in my family. I consider all my pets as part of the family. I would want to make the place they spend a majority of their life as comfortable as possible. The place they sleep should be a place they want to go to. A place they can kick back and feel at peace.

The reason I like the igloo dog house first off is the appearance. For me it is appealing the eye. Does my dog care what his house looks like? Probably not.

Will this house keep him cool in the summer time? This home accomplishes this with vent on top which allows it to stay cooler in hotter climates.

How about the winter time? I need a house that can keep my pet warm in those colder months. This is one of the domiciles that is insulated. This makes it much warmer in the winter time to help keep your pets more comfortable if they have to stay outside when it is cold.

Another factor to consider is protection from the elements. Just about any home will keep your pet protected from the wind, rain and snow. This one does that exceptionally well. Since it is not made of wood it is resistant to rotting and mold. This is one thing that makes it superior to wood homes.

Another option that is available is a door to help keep the elements out.

I have owned many dog houses. Once I bought an igloo dog house I could not see myself trying anything else.

Dog Bone Cancer Symptoms

Dog Obedience No Comments »

It appears that the rich, unsaturated fat called Omega 3 when combined with a generous amount of the compound lignan as well as the soluble fibers in its hull, fuels the ability of flax seed to promote and sustain the proper functioning of the bodys vital systems. Dog Bone Cancer SymptomsLignans are known to exhibit cancer prevention properties while soluble fiber treats constipation and other digestive tract problems.

But the health benefits of flax seed do not conclude at this note. In fact, the flaxs potential as treatment for certain cancers has ignited tremendous hype in the field of medicine, stirring the interest of medical practitioners, scientists, and nutrition experts alike. Over time, these findings found its way into quite a number of scientific laboratories that seek to probe further into the merits of using flax seed with cancer patients through a series of controlled experiments that employ as variables a good number of content-restricted diets that have been supplied with pre-determined amounts of ground flax.

So far the results of these experiments have been conclusive enough to assert the potential of flax seed oil and its nutritional content to inhibit cancer growth. More often than not, proponents are surprised over the obtained findings that remarkably reveal a considerable reduction in tumor size and the controlled proliferation of cancer cells among breast cancer and prostate cancer patients whose controlled diets have been regularly supplemented with particular quantities of ground flax seed and flax lignan capsules. Incidentally, patients who were not nourished with flax in any way did not demonstrate any improvements over the spread of tumor or cancer cells in their bodies.

The cancer-fighting properties of the minute flax seed can be attributed to the high-lignan content of its oil. In fact, flax seed is the chief source of lignan among plants, to contain around 75% more of this compound than sesame seeds, soybeans, and broccoli. Plant lignans is an important phytochemical and anti-oxidant that helps minimize the risks and control the spread of colon, pancreatic, and bone cancers, among others.

It will probably take some time and perhaps even more research before these findings will merit full recognition of flax as a cancer-fighting agent. But then again, consider its nutritional profile and track record of providing healthful benefits. Surely you can assert that cancer-prevention is indeed viable with a daily dose of ground flax seed.
