You need to know some tricks to making your puppy act submissively in order to show him who is in charge. Use these exercises to show your dog you are in charge.
- One way to show your puppy who is dominant to is by holding him still and staring directly into his eyes until he calms down and completely relaxes. His relaxation is a sign that he recognizes your dominance.
- Another good way to show dominance is to hold him upside down, while supporting his back and his head. Just like before, keep him in this position until he has become calm and submissive.
- Another variation of this exercise is to hold the puppy down on the floor with one hand on his belly and one hand holding his neck, and then pushing a little bit. If he squirms, hold him still with your hands until the puppy becomes calm and submissive.
- You can combine using the eye contact, the growling and the holding to really make your point if your puppy does not quickly submit.
You should repeat these types of exercise each time your puppy is acting aggressive and needs a reminder on who is the alpha dog around the house. Your consistency and fairness will be important to earning your puppy’s trust and respect and for him to recognize you as the alpha leader. After you have established yourself as the Alpha leader of your pack, your puppy will be well balanced and well behaved and a joy to take anywhere with you.
