What is a good age to start obedience training for a puppy?

Posted on May 16, 2010 under obedience training | 10 Comments

We just adopted a shelter pup and she’s about 3 months old. What is a good age to take her to obedience training? Also… any tips on how to keep her from jumping up on people? She does it when she’s excited and she knocks my son down or get people muddy……thanks :)

now for the obedience training. as to the jumping on people turn you back on the puppy do not speak to him. have your son do the same thing. the training will help him a lot also look in to agility training.

I have no clue on what age. But you shouls start training her early though because it is harder to train a dog when they are older.

Right now! Take your pup to puppy kindergarden. It wonderful class and the pups learn so much and you do too. It’s so much fun also!

Find a class and sign up!

well some wont take your pup till they have all their shots.. we started ours as soon as she got her rabies shot… and she did great. some classes like puppies to be like 6 months or older casue of their attention span

I know PetSmart has puppy training classes. The first class is for 4 months and under I believe (it could be 5 months and under). After 5 months, they put you in a beginner class, which is for puppies and dogs without any formal training. After that you can go to different classes to learn new behaviors and things.

That’s an easy question: immediately! But make sure that she’s had at least her basic shots, otherwise she could catch a disease. Unless you enroll her in puppy class.
    Good Luck!
