What has worked for you on house training your puppies?

Just wondering what has worked for you on potty training??

We tied a bell on a string and hung it from the door..everytime we took them out, we put their paws on the bell to make it ring and said, "ring the bell!" It took a couple weeks, but they are now pro’s at it!! I used to love hearing the sound of that bell when they first learned how to do it…now I cringe because our girl thinks it’s fun to ring it every 5 minutes!!

Crate training is the only way to go. You have so much more control, and when done right, the dog potties where you want it do, or it doesn’t go at all!

I also crate trained and it worked really well for me. I crated my JRT for about a year and a half ,mostly because he was to destructive to leave out while I was at work. But now he’s 4 and I leave him out all day with no problems.

Well I was very consistent by taking him out on the hour. Soon he understood that outside is his potty and inside is his home and not his potty. =]

crate training. and constantly following them around and correcting them when they make mistakes. Its ok to let them make a mistake, they have to learn somehow. so even if you see him going to chew on something and you know he will, let him but once he has it in his mouth correct him for doing it. sure its kinda mean and you think "why not stop him before he starts so he just won’t do it" because if you do, he won’t really know what he did wrong, he actually has to do the action itself to associate it with being wrong. good luck

When you take your puppy outside have a "command" like "go potty". Do not under any circumstances (no matter how cute your puppy is) change potty time into play time. Potty time is potty time and nothing else! If he doesn’t go within 5 minutes, bring him back in the house and try again in a few minutes. When he finally does go – praise him! Clap your hands, say "Good Boy!"

Also always remember to take your puppy out:
    1) After he eats
    2) After he plays
    3) After he sleeps

If you adhere to those 3 times to take him out, you will have very few accidents in the house.

    Good luck!

If you dont like the idea of puttin him in a crate then buy kids gates and secure him in one room this will teach him he can not go through the whole house and when you see him goin potty tel him no pick him up and say out or pee pee and take him outside he will soon get the message that when he has to go potty he will either go to you or the door
    GOOD LUCK
