Anyone know of good web sites for training puppies not to bite?
Posted on Jun 17, 2010 under training puppies | 11 CommentsWe just got our Puggle 3 days ago, (pug/beagle). He is absolutety wonderful…but the nipping/biting hurts sooo bad! I try to replace w/ a chew toy right away and say no bite. I am just looking for more expert advice to end this asap. Thanks in advance.
Some things to try:
1) Let out a loud and high-pitched yelp when your puppy bites you. Then turn around and ignore him as if you’re hurt. Since your puppy obviously does not WANT to hurt you, this should surprise him and make him realize that his nips are painful.
2) When he bites, give him a stern NO! or a sharp sound of any kind and tell him "no bite". Immediately give him a toy that he CAN bite/chew and give him praise when he bites the toy instead.
3) Spray bitter apple on your hands. He will associate biting/licking your hands as something negative since it will taste horrible.
4) Don’t engage in rough-housing with your bare hands where you give him an opportunity to bite or nip you. Use toys instead.

Get a Tin can and put a handful of pennies inside. Make sure you use TIN like those christmas cookies come in… anyway when the pup starts to bite shake the can at them and say NO! firmly… There is another tool called a clicker then I have had mixed results with… The Tin can is most successful…
It is said that the Sound of the Pennies in the Tin can is like the mother dogs Bark…
My cousin is a Dog handler with the Army and He sometimes Bites the dog back and barks at them… He says it works… but I don’t know too many people willing to bite thier dogs back.
