Dog Obedience Add comments

Automatic dog doors are doors designed to open and close whenever your dog needs it. These doors do not need to be manually opened by owners to give access to their pets.

Mechanical dog doors, like an electronic or magnetic pet door, have been designed to accommodate these problems and issues.

In earlier times, when pet flaps are still dominating the market, some problems had risen regarding the use of these doors. Some of these concerns are security and convenience.

Manufacturers were finding ways on how to make an existing dog door and cat door to be security pet doors.

Since dog flaps can be opened and closed just by pushing them easily, these doors can give access not only to your dog but also to stray animals inside your house. Also, these they do not offer the best insulation.

When the weather is bad, some elements can enter your house like strong winds, rain, and even snow.

It can even pose a great danger to owners with babies that can already crawl. They can crawl outside through these doors since they are small enough to fit through it without their parents knowing.

How Does It Work?

To address these issues, automatic pet doors were designed. They offer superior protection from weather elements. When there is a storm occurring in your area, not a drop of water will enter your house through these doors.

Also, they offer excellent insulation. They prevent heat and cold loss, which a conventional pet door does not offer.

Automatic dog doors work by giving access to your pets only. Electric ones, like an automatic cat gate is operated by having a special collar worn by your pet that can give a signal whenever your pet is near the door.

The door will automatically open as soon as it receives the signal then it closes after your pet passed through.

Magnetic pet doors, on the other hand, use a small magnet attached to the pet collar. The magnets attached to the collar gives off signal that will automatically unlatch the door when your pet wants to enter or exit the house.

Some type does not require batteries and electricity so you do not need to worry even if you are not in your house. For cats, automatic cat doors are designed or cats older than 9 months of age.

Also, kittens are not recommended to wear special keyed collars like the magnetic ones.

I hope this information will give you more knowledge on how various types of dog doors work and what type can be beneficial to your home and your pet.
