Dog Obedience Training - How to Train Your Dog to Come to You
By Rikard Ingvarsson

If you want your dog to get the right training, then there are some common mistakes which are made by pet owners, which you should avoid. The most common of them include pampering the pets too much. It has been seen that most of the dog owners decide to train their pets themselves and most of them fail to do so. The main reason for this failure is the excess pampering which is bestowed on the puppy. It is true that only pet owners can understand the sympathetic look on the faces of their dogs and the difficulty faced in refusing them another slice of ham.

Thus it is often suggested that the pet should be trained through a professional rather than yourself. If you want your dog to come you on your call then one of the most common things you have to train them with is to make them associate the call with the action, which should be performed by the dog. For this if you hire a professional then you should try and avoid coming near the area of training. Once the dogs are aware that their masters are watching, they usually seek refuge by running to them.

For making your dog more obedient and disciplined you have to be stern with them at times, like the way you would do with your own kids. The owners should understand that training their dogs would help the dog in a positive way, hence they should avoid being overwhelmed by emotions and refusing the trainer to train your little darling.

It has been proven that the dog owners can train their dogs by rewarding them for every positive step, instead of punishing them for every mistake they make. Hence if you want your dog to obey your command, then you should reward it with a biscuit or its favorite food. So the next time you should try and help them to understand their rewards and try and obey their masters more. Since the dogs crave for the master\’s attention and approval, this should used as an advantage to train the pets rather than pamper them at time.

The calling association is best done using the name of the dog. This way every time the name of the dog is called out the pet comes to you. But again the disadvantage here is that the pet would also go to every other person who calls their name like your spouse or children. To make the move more specific you can use words like come, to associate going to the person calling out their names.

You should remember that the dog does not understand your language, so you have to train it to understand all commands. If you have two commands for the same action then the dog will get confused. So try and avoid similar sounding words for different actions and try to keep very different sounding words for close actions. This will help your pet to follow your commands without getting confused as they are not able to distinguish very well between similar sounding words.

Save yourself a lot of time as a dog owner and train your dog to be obedient. It gets so much easier for both you and your dog when you have trained your dog“s obedience. Click here to learn more about training your dog.
