It can be seen with their fondness of pleasing their human family. English Mastiff dogs are well mannered and intelligent. They are autocratic. The English Mastiff does not fight with other dog until and unless he has to defend himself. He can also be easily mixed with other animals in the house. For instance I know that when I was walking my English Mastiff at the local park and he seen someone he did not trust he would put himself between me and him. Now this was against what I was trying to get him to do and that was heeling, but at the same time they are such a loyal dog that they will do that if they feel that you could be threatened or someone in your family could be threatened. Now dealing with the stubbornness involves a lot of training. The obedience training though will not take care of all your dogs’ stubborn issues. I know that mine is still stubborn as can be, but he listens a lot better than what he did before. The only real issue that he doesn’t listen to me about is my rug which is still a work in progress to keep him off of it.
