Some dogs, like our other dogs, start barking when they bump into other dogs bigger than themselves.

Dogs are group animals and can also start barking when they feel bored and lonely when you are going to leave the home. So the dog needs to find out that it’s acceptable for you to leave him alone for some shorter periods. Just by turning the radio on when you leave can be effective.

What do dogs when you have forgotten it’s time for their food? Or when they need the toilet? If they can’t get your attention straight away they will let you know by barking. So it’s a fact that dogs start barking when they wants our attention for something.

If the barking becomes unnecessary you can help your dog understand that he not constantly have to be the midpoint of your attention. The dog have to be trained to understand that he cannot at all times get response from you simply by merely barking, so sometimes you need to just overlook the barking. You can try to save approving and petting until your dog has in fact done something right to earn it. When the dog has listened and reacted acceptably to the instruction you can pet the dog’s head and tell him what a good dog he is.
